Rejects in the Dark
Today's bonuses are two sprite strips: Prentis and Linton decide to have
a security drill in the dark, and
what happens. Thanks for voting!
On Buffers and Blackouts
I try to keep ahead on Station V3, but it doesn't always work out that way. At most I've had a week of completed strips ahead of time, and usually it's less than that. Last night was one of those "less than that" times, and as I was finishing up today's strip, the power went out. A couple candles and a phone call to the power company later, I found out it was because there was a fire in the area (which turned out to be on Ash Street), and the power would be back on in an hour or so. Which it was, and I completed the strip (fortunately I had saved just before the power died), and it was up when it was supposed to be. Of course, I was just lucky the power was back on in time, and I suppose it points out the need to always have at least a couple days' worth of completed strips uploaded and ready to go.
Or it could have just pointed out the need to have today's strip done about five minutes earlier... :)
(Or maybe that missing a webcomic update isn't quite as big a problem in the grand scheme of things as somebody's house burning down?)
2006/04/29
Indecision
Today's bonuses: An
alternate version of today's strip, and a
sprite strip in which one of the rumormongers is a little indecisive when it comes for who to vote for in
Rumormonger Idol.
Thank You to everyone who's been voting! I hope you're enjoying the bonus strips - let me know if you have any
requests!
2006/04/28
Reaction Bonus
Two sprite-style bonus strips today: One rumormonger
is getting a little negative about Rumormonger Idol, and Linton
thinks somebody knows who's going to win!
2006/04/27
Final Round Voting
The
poll is now open for the final round of Rumormonger Idol! Who gets kicked off now leaving the other is the winner is up to you. :)
Final Round!
Today's bonuses: The final round of Rumormonger Idol is here!
Contestant Three and
Contestant Five are giving it their best shot.
Or... not. The poll for the final round will be up later today!
2006/04/26
Before the final round
Two bonuses today: A
bonus strip in which someone has been brought in to give the Rumormonger Idol finalists some pointers before the final round, and a
really bad translation of today's strip!
2006/04/25
Idol thought bonuses
Two sprite-style strips up as today's new voting bonuses:
Linton and
Prentis both have a few thoughts on Rumormonger Idol. (And there's a lucky rumormonger there to hear them.)
Thanks for voting! :) If you have any requests for a bonus strip, you can post them at the
Station V3 forum. (Which is also a good place to discuss Station V3, if you're so inclined!)
2006/04/24
Bonus Archive update and upgrade
I've updated the
bonus archive with the 28 bonuses that have gone up since the last time I updated it, and finally got around to putting back the navigation buttons for easier archive browsing. (Which seem to be working, but let me know if they're not!)
Round 3 Results
The Rumormonger Idol Round 3 results are up as today's bonuses! There's a "blink and you miss it"
results show, the loser
talks to the judges, and the loser
has a few parting words! There was no question who the loser was this time, since he got more votes than the other two combined.
2006/04/23
The rejects keep on coming
Two more sprite bonus strips today:
Floyd can tell Ebb and Linton apart (sort of), and
Linton and Prentis discuss Floyd's problem.
Rumormonger Idol Round 3 results tomorrow!
2006/04/22
Who are you?
Floyd's having some problems telling people apart in today's three sprite-style bonus strips: He can't tell
Ebb from Neap,
Linton from the pirates... or
himself from his reflection in the mirror! (Not doing very well, is he?)
2006/04/21
Delayed Results
Two sprite-style bonus strips today: The rumormongers discuss the fact that the
Rumormonger Idol Round 3 results haven't been announced yet, and Floyd finds a way to
keep the station secure without any help from Linton or Prentis. Thanks for voting!

The Shocking Truth: The Third Planet is a Beach Boys 45
In the second panel of today's strip, the third planet in V3's system was drawn by tracing the center hole of an extra copy of the Beach Boys' mid-70s top 10 hit version of Chuck Berry's "Rock And Roll Music" (with "The TM Song" on the flip side) that I had on the shelf near the drawing supplies.
Two days ago the planet was drawn (or at least part of it was) by tracing the outer edge. And it was also used on
Sunday, where the outer edge was the rumormongers' planet, and the center hole was the gas giant off in the distance. The 45 was not harmed in the production of any of these strips. (Though like I said, this was the extra copy - a little worn. I wouldn't have used a good one for this!)
...In case anyone was wondering!
Alternate Object
There were two slightly different strips I had in mind for today - the one I decided to go with is the one above, and the one I didn't - where the rumormongers get more specific about what sort of object the third planet is - is up (in color!) as one of today's
bonus strips. The other is a
bad translation of today's strip, which gets better as it goes along. Thank You to everyone who's been voting for Station V3!
2006/04/19
Double Sprite
Today's bonuses are two more sprite-style strips following up on yesterday's -
Linton has a plan to get the stolen money back, and
how it works out!
2006/04/18
Secure Bonus and Bad Translation
Today's bonus strips: A reject-style strip where Linton got one of those banking scam emails and is now
attempting to explain to Prentis what happened to the money, and a
bad translation of today's strip. (Don't you think us you would have found it to date?)
2006/04/17
What an offer...
I've been getting some of the junk bank scam emails going around lately. Today, "on behalf of all this years of banking," I got an email offering me a whole $30 to expand my "curent" business or invest in a new (very) small business. (Or spend.) All I have to do is click a link that doesn't match what it says it is, fill out a form, and they'll add the $30 to my account. At a bank I don't have an account at. Very generous of them!
(But I think I'll pass.)
It's an egg, that's what it is
I don't know if this counts as a request or not, but my brother told me this photo had to go up as a bonus today - it's a
rumormonger egg. (That is, it's an egg decorated to look like one - not an egg that one might hatch out of!)
And today's other bonus is a
reject-style strip with two rumormongers discussing
round 3 of Rumormonger Idol!
2006/04/16
Happy Easter!
Happy Easter to anyone reading who's celebrating it today!
Two sprite-style bonus strips today: In one,
a rumormonger is confused by something (but you won't be, having seen the picture above), and
Prentis continues to keep the station secure. Also today, a
drawing of Morty wearing the bunny ears Linton refused to wear two years ago. Thanks for voting!
2006/04/15
And now you know...
Today's bonus strips (by request) attempt to explain some of the "mysteries" you might encounter while reading Station V3:
First, how does Mr. Substitute change a light bulb while the reality normalizer is offline, and
second, who puts up those signs on the planet advertising the station?
Thank You to everyone who's been voting! If you have a request for a bonus, you can post it on the
forum.
2006/04/14
The Third Planet
You might wonder why there's so much interest in the third planet in V3's system (which may or may not exist) - in today's first bonus,
some reject-style rumormongers have a discussion which might shed a little light on the subject!
And there's also a
bad translation of today's strip, which won't.
2006/04/13
Two and One
Two of today's bonuses are in the reject (sprite) style, and one isn't... The two reject ones are
two rumormongers talking about round 3 of Rumormonger Idol and
Prentis talking to a rumormonger, and the non-reject one has
a few comments from the Rumormonger Idol judges before you
vote to decide who gets kicked off this round!
2006/04/12
A big bonus archive update
If you've missed any of the bonuses since the last time I updated the bonus archive (over 3 dozen bonuses ago), they're all in the
bonus archive now, *including*
the current three. (They're going to be replaced in an hour or so anyway, so why not?)
3 for Round 3
For today's three bonuses, the three remaining Rumormonger Idol contestants are doing their thing (for round three):
here,
here, and
here! With contestants 2 and 4 gone, the three remaining contestants are odd... in more ways than one.
Speaking of Idol-related things, how disappointing was it that American Idol had a week of Queen songs, and nobody sang "Flash's Theme" from the Flash Gordon soundtrack? Talk about a wasted opportunity...
"What do you mean, Flash Gordon approaching? Open fire - all weapons!"
2006/04/11
Jump the alligator
Today's bonuses are an
alternate version of today's strip, a
bad translation of today's strip, and a
sketch of a Rumormonger Idol contestant who has decided his future lies in tricycle stunts. Thank You to everyone who's been voting for Station V3 so far this month!
2006/04/10
Almost but not quite halfway there
About half of the strips in the Station V3 archive have been transcribed on
Oh No Robot.
This page shows what's been transcribed so far. Thank You to everyone who's been helping out with that!
And on an unrelated note, here's another look at the Station V3 frappr map!
The reject style strikes again
Two more bonus strips in the reject style today, with Floyd putting in an appearance - first
with Linton, and then
with Prentis. The two of them agree on something, but Floyd's not going to be very happy about it...
2006/04/09
Bonus by request
Two new bonus strips are up today: By request, a look at
how the missing search mission is doing, and Contestant 4 from Rumormonger Idol really should not be
trying to ride his tricycle.
If you have a request for a bonus, you can request it over on the
forum!
2006/04/08
Results!
The Rumormonger Idol Round 2 results are up as today's voting bonuses:
The loser is revealed,
the loser is consoled, and
the loser has some parting words!
2006/04/07
Spoiled!
Today's bonuses are a
bad translation of today's strip, and a
reject-style strip in which the rumormongers discuss the second round results of
Rumormonger Idol. (Are the results they're discussing accurate? Maybe...)
2006/04/06
More rejects
The reject-style strips have taken on a life of their own! Two more are up as bonuses today, with the rumormongers putting in an appearance,
discussing a rumor and
talking to Linton.
2006/04/05
The things you find on your hard drive...
I was going through some of the files in the Station V3 folder on my hard drive, and found a photo of Ebb with the Space: 1999 soundtrack album. I remember mentioning finding the album (apparently in August 2004), but I don't think I ever put the picture up anywhere!
It's a little late, but here it is now:
(And it's a great album, in case anyone was wondering! The music was one of the best things about the show.)
Labels: photograph, records, Space: 1999
Details are a little sketchy...
2006/04/04
Back to the Reject
Today's bonuses are a couple more strips in the new style that's not going to happen (really it isn't):
Linton meets Prentis, and
Prentis keeps the station secure!
2006/04/03
State of the Station
Station V3 (the comic) had its busiest month so far in March. Hopefully April will be even busier! The logs seem to show a few new visitors coming in, especially when I had guest art up at
Catharis and
The Gods of Arr-Kelaan. Wherever you came from - Welcome, thanks for reading, and I hope you're enjoying the comic so far! :)
The comic did fairly well on the voting lists again last month, hitting the Top 40 on buzzComix and a bit better than the previous month on TopWebcomics. Thank You to everyone who's been voting! Since the voting lists also seem to bring in a lot of visitors, I'm setting a higher goal of the Top 30 on buzzComix and Top 40 on TopWebcomics this month, and putting up even more bonuses than usual along the way. It's off to a good start so far, and here are three more bonuses today: An
alternate version of today's strip with the punchline most Star Trek fans reading today's strip were probably expecting, a
bad translation of today's strip that manages to get it completely wrong, and
another strip in the rejected April Fool's Day style.
The results from
round 2 of Rumormonger Idol will be coming up this week - but not yet, since right now there's a tie in the poll for who's getting kicked off!
2006/04/02
Saving Daylight with the New Style
After some careful consideration (that is to say, I was never going to do it anyway), I'm not going to change Station V3's look to the one previewed yesterday. But here are two more strips in the rejected style as bonuses today!
Linton talks to Ebb, and they
play with Daylight Savings Time!
2006/04/01
And it's not even April 1 on their calendar...
There's a lot of 'fooling' going on in today's strip... but is the rumormonger with the rumor about the station's review really fooling, or just fooling that he's fooling?
Today's bonuses (
here,
here, and
here) preview a new look for Station V3... but is the new look an April Fool's Day joke, or is that exactly what you'd be expecting, and the joke is that you think it's a joke, but it isn't?
Stay tuned to Station V3 this month, where the answers to both questions will be revealed!
(Ha! Fooled you... They won't be!)
(Or will they?)
